Yuan Xiao 2010

Today marks the end of the CNY 2010. Glad that I have the chance to meet everyone during this festive season and more important, everyone is healthy and happy. Well, New Year's decorations at the office and home will be removed. What else.......... yes, ang pows will be opened and I am going to be a little richer. As for the remaining goodies, I shall bring them to my office for the workers to share. Life goes on....... btw, when is the next public holiday??????

Visiting Joe's mother

Thank goodness! Somehow I managed to catch up with my childhood friends William and Eric. Still, we miss our brother Joe Lim who had returned to heaven 4 years ago. Gathering at Yew Tee, we visited Joe's mother last night. Her face lit up with delight when she welcomed us at the condo pool deck. For me, it was a relief after years of trying to pay her a visit. At the same time, I am happy that she is healthy and does not age much. It's a blessing that her other children are doing well and she is a proud grandmother. On behalf of my children, I would like to thank her for the ang pows. By the time I reached home, it was past midnight. A tiring night but it's worthwhile.

Last gathering for the New Year?

It's probably the last gathering of this CNY for me. My project is rushing and it's confirmed that my weekend is burned. In fact I have 2 more house visiting to go. I will try especially paying a visit to my late friend's mother. Phew!

Back to the gathering on Wednesday at Aranda Country Club. It's not value for money especially the food. The only good thing I can think of is........... you won't believe it, we were the only guests for the night. It's like we booked the whole restaurant. Oh yes, these are my secondary school mates and it's a blessing that we are still in touch. They are no different from my other friends for I was told to combine luck and hopefully hit the Toto jackpot of S$10 million today. In the other words, I contributed $2 to their ticket. Huat ah!!!!!!!!!!!

HH Gang Returns

Photograph : Courtesy of Lee Hoon

HH Gang (Hong Hiao Gang) returns after a 2-year absence. Guess what? We created havoc at the Serangoon District last night. As suggested by Neo, we started with a dinner and a noisy but 'full of hopes' lo hei at the Boon Hwa coffee
mailto:shop@Jalan Besar. Imagine dining at the back lane and worst, me facing Hotel 81. OMG! The jokes never stop. With just 6 0f us, the shouting of 'Huat Ah!!!!' attracted the attention of the remainding diners during the tossing of the 'lo hei'. Dare to be wild and the fun comes along easily.
After the dinner, we were looking a place to have coffee and landed at Hotel Park Royal coffee house. Our fear came true when we noticed that a cup of coffee cost $14++. It goes without saying and it took guts to walk out of that place. We continued our search and settled at an North Indian Restaurant there. Surprisingly they welcomed us with open arms when told that we were having drinks only. All of us order ginger tea and the butt of the jokes was that Pipi wanted ginger water only. The Captain answered 'yes' with a typical Indian head shaking. She assumed her order was understood but in the end, she was served ginger tea too. Everyone had a good laugh and she was totally blurred. For the record, Winston and Neo finished her share.
Guys, many thanks for the memories.

The Tiger still roars

The Tiger still roars on this 8th day of CNY. The celebration continues and along with his aunties and friends, we will be at Andrew's place this afternoon. It's an annual event he organised for this festival. Thank you for the invitation.
For those in Poly and Uni, we wish you good luck for the coming examination. Believe all of you have collected enough ang pows. Take a break, keep the money and continue to celebrate after the exams.
Serene and family will be returning to Melbourne. Bon voyage!

Happy Birthday Joseph

2nd Day of CNY 2010

We celebrated the 2nd day of CNY 2010 at my sister's place with my family members. My brother-in-law Eddie Goh, my sister Jessie and daughter Peizhi are excellent hosts. No exchange of 'ang pow' and I dare not wish any of them a Happy New Year. Somehow, I managed to give every individual (absentee inclusive) of the Yu generation a $10 note except for one. It's meant to be a blessing from this rock & roll Uncle. I am really happy that this small gesture can bring a smile on their face. Good Luck!

We joked with our 3rd sister-in-law Rose that Jessie baked the New Year cookies and invited her to sample it. She gave a thumbs up with doubts. Everyone burst into laughter when it was revealed that the cookies were bought from a shop in Toa Payoh. Anyway, thank you for being such a good sport.

Golden Tiger Year

Reunion dinner on New Year's eve with my brothers and sister was a little different from the previous year. We had decided to change from the Teochew restaurant to a seafood restaurant at Dempsey Road. The ambiance of it and the food were good. Somehow my family members have quietened down. Perhaps something was missing. Since we are gathering 2 to 3 times a year, I fear that we will be perfect strangers in the near future.

Kong Hei Fatt Choy! Yes, to my in-law's place on the 1st day of the New Year. My father-in-law Joseph, gave a two-hour personal account of his life and experience to all his grandchildren. I am glad that a few patiently listened and the rest respectfully waiting for him to end. It's gambling session after his lecture. Luck was with me and I make about S30. Huat ah! Not only we had steamboat and BBQ for dinner but a lobster party too. Slurp........

Roaring good times.........

Chinese all over the world are busy preparing to welcome the much awaited 'Auspicious Tiger bringing along Roaring Good Times". In fact I can feel it is inching towards us. Poor Brother Ox is packing and reluctant to leave. Sob, sob....

My office is unofficial declared close for the CNY. I went Chinatown to have a feel of the festival at lunch time. Phew! The heat is unbearable. Prices for the goodies remain high. I may return there after our Reunion Dinner tomorrow evening. Btw, why am I going back??? Huh????

Lo Hei before CNY

Gosh, couldn't believe I had my 'lo hei' before CNY. Celebrating with those mixed nationality wasn't as fun as they do not know the significance and thrill of it. Moreover, the shouting of 'Huat Ah' was missing. Simply no excitement. Whatever, I must thank Francis for the superb lunch especially the butter crab. Delicious, slurp!

Me and Vincent (my colleague) bought the dancing God of Fortune and place them on our tables. Hopefully they shower us with good luck and good fortune. Not only that, we hang CNY decorations in our office to welcome the roaring Tiger year too. Finally, I found someone as crazy as me. Huat ahh..........................

Dare to dream

A 'heartbreaking no' to a request to borrow $7ooo to fulfill a 21 days Europe tour dream. It's not a joke. Guess life is too comfortable for these youngster nowadays. No matter what the reason is, they have no right to be frustrated or disappointed. No average income earning parents would lend this money to their children. S$7000 cash is a lot of money. Yes, big money. I sincerely pray that they don't come back with more 'political promises' or what we called 'SHIT'. For heaven sake, leave us alone. Me and Margaret are very tired after all these struggling years.

We visited my brother Roger at Queenstown for he is living alone. Due to my work commitment in the past weeks, I had to give him a miss. Well, he is happy to see us. Back to CNY, we are almost ready to welcome Year of the Tiger, not forgetting to thank Mr Ox for a reasonable good year. I returned from the salon with a new hair-cut while Margaret..... with a new pair of shoes. The Spring cleaning continues....................... till the final seconds..................

Awaiting CNY invitation

Argh........... my body is aching. I feel I am growing older. For the past fortnight, I have been working without a break. Okay, so much about me and I am looking forward to the CNY. Can someone play that 'gong xi gong xi' song please. That's my favorite till today. Needless to say, CNY can never be the same without my late mom and dad. No worry, the celebration goes on and be assured that I shall not spoil your festive joy and mood.
No doubt I am going back to work on the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, I believe there won't be any work exceeding my official working hours. That is to say .......... aiyah, I can attend evening gathering should there be any. Serene, dinner on me before your Melbourne departure. As for the rest, I await your invitation. Cheers!
