Countdown 2009

Guess everyone is ready for the countdown to midnight. Yes.... thanks for those early greetings thru email and sms. As all of us are always busy and rarely have the time to meet up, these season's greetings mean a lot to me. Keep your mails coming in. I believe that's a form of saying 'hello, how are you?'
For that few younger friends of mine who should be at the Sentosa beach by now, I say 'enjoy yourself and have fun'.

Looking back 2008

Like what I said, 2008 rocks. Looking back, I have no regrets coming in to my present company. The initial period was difficult. I had to learn to deal with the new enviroment, different system of getting work done and what else........... a handful of unscrupulous colleagues. But I got to know a few nice people too. Que sera sera.....

As for my family, we are happy and harmonious. Now that the children have grown up, me and Margaret are seeing less of them at home. Smily is attached to his girlfriend Sheryl while hey...... Fyn, are you attached or not? Haha! The not-so-good news is that my mother is getting weaker physically. Guess it's common as we age.

If there is a trophy for inconsistent performance, I would not hestiate to award it to my favourite football club, Arsenal. When it's expected for them to win, they lose and vice versa. It's beyond my imagination for them to win Manchester United and Chelsea and lost to Hull City and Fulham. I am still in a state of confusion.

Since this is the last weekend of the year, I would like to say goodbye to 2008. Thank you for the wonderful year.

Congratulation to Yew Shih on his graduation. Please pay your grandmother a visit upon your return for she would be the one of the happiest person to share your joy. Cheers!

Countdown to Christmas

It's God's will. We planned to work till this evening but it started to rain last night. At about noon, we decided to call it a day as it was pointless to wait for it to stop. I began this year celebration with a teppanyaki lunch at Wisma Atria as Margaret attended her company lunch celebration in her office.

I gathered with her and Fyn at Orchard Road to do some last minute shopping in the late afternoon. Guess what we had for dinner? Noodles and dumplings at Ding Tai Fung Restauarant. Maybe we should have turkey for Chinese New Year instead. LOL.

It's still raining. Gonna be a wet, wet Christmas this year. Margaret, Fyn and my mother-in-law will be attending the midnight mass. They will be marching to the church to 'chope' ( reserve) seats soon. Last year, me and Margaret were stranded outside the chapel for the service inside was fully occupied.

Dong Zhi 2008

Happy Dong Zhi 2008. To date, I do not understand why we have to celebrate this winter festival in tropical Singapore. Guess I have accept it as another Chinese festival which is associated with the making and eating coloured glutinuous rice flour balls in sweet syrup. Oh, how I miss the fun with my brothers and sister. I was told that I would be a year older after eating these rice balls. As for my age, I prefer not to have them. LOL. Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone 'Good Health and Stay Happy Always!'

Latest update: Okay, this is what I discovered after some readings through the web.
Dong Zhi is also known as Winter Solsticse Festival. Celebrated on the longest night of the year, Dong Zhi is the day where sunshine is weakest and daylight shortest. The coming of winter is celebrated by families and traditionally the time where farmers and fishermen gather food in preparation for the coming cold season. It is also a time for family reunions.

Tangyuan, tangyuan, oh how I miss tangyuan.....

Tangyuan with feelings.. oops!!! I mean fillings.

X'mas is around the corner

Nowadays, Sunday is never complete without paying my mother a visit. She is into her old age and not in her best of health. In fact, it was Margaret who insist that I visit her on every Sunday no matter how tired I am. Guess she is right.
Hallelujah! Christmas is around the corner. We managed to find some time in the afternoon to shop for X'mas presents. It's a blessing that my immediate superior is quite a nice chap and I got an ..... what else ..... A/X polo shirt for him. Hope he like it. There is still another weekend to go before this festival. We need to hunt for a few more presents for our love ones. As for Smily's cousins, Fyn has volunteered to get the presents for them this year. Needless to say, money will be transfered into her account. Well, Christmas is a festival of giving and we are thankful that we are able to give and happy to see our love ones receiving them with joy. Cheers!

Hari Raya Haji 2008

Wishing all our Muslim friends 'Selamat Hari Raya Haji'.

I had accidentally dialed my former company's General foreman cum driver while searching for my friend's contact. I hang out immediately upon realising it. He was my former boss' pet and I have not talk to him since leaving the company four years ago. Minutes later, he returned my call. Not wanting to be rude, I identifed myself and said it's a courtesy call. As usual, he (pretending or not, I don't know) couldn't recall who am I. When he finally did, I told him I will call him another day. Btw, I deleted his contact in order not to repeat the mistake again. Phew.........

The Fossil Private Sale

Recession? It's a madding crowd at the Fossil Private Sale at Suntec City. I went with Margaret as invited guests yesterday morning and to our surprise, the hall was packed. We had to squeeze ourselves into each counter to have a look at those displays. Eventually, we managed to grab a few Emporio Armani watches and a Fossil leather bag at a 40% discount. Mind you, that was just the beginning of a nightmare. After paying at the Cashier counter, we proceeded to Collection Counter. The queue was unbelievable. Guess what? It took us about 2 hours to finally recieve our watches and bag.

December, the festive month

The best month of the year : December. Yes, for the kids it's school holidays. For the working adults, 13th month bonus. For the majority, it's oversea holidays. The most beautiful thing of all, it's Christmas time. Colourful decorations, beautiful lightings, Christmas carolling, festive atmosphere and the joy of giving and receiving blessings and presents.
Close to my heart, my wish for this Christmas.... Peace, Love and Joy. Let's learn to forgive and forget. And for my family... good health always.

My loving wife, Margaret.

Give Peace A Chance

It is sad that our fellow Singaporean Ms Lo Hwei Yen was killed in the Mumbai Massacre. I do not wish to write any further on it except to extract a phrase from the late John Lennon's song : GIVE PEACE A CHANCE.

At last, I managed to find some time to visit the hair salon and came out with a fresh, clean look. It is one of the rare occasions that I got convinced to sign a package with them.

Welcome Winston Cheah to the Novena District. His office has been shifted from Capital Tower to IRA Building. Well, it's always nice to have a meal ( with lots of laughter) with him. Okay... lunch on me.

Poor Arsenal

Guess the world is coming to an end for Arsenal Football Club. There are internal feuds as revealed by William Gallas, their Captain. I agree with Arsene Wenger to strip him of his captaincy for he is incapable of leading and motivating. Moreover, going to the press and blah everything negative is a mischief. He had failed in his duty and yet, talk and act too much. They were thrashed by Man City by three goals last night, thus losing 2 games in a row. It's frustrating to watch them giving the ball away cheaply especially in recent games. Whatever, once an Arsenal fan, always an Arsenal fan. Come on, Wenger! Let's move on and built another team of Invincibles.

Economic downturn

Economic downturn, upside down, inside out, retrenchment or recession? Yes, it's for real. Scary, very scary. There are about 6 t0 7 pages of articles on the Sunday Times today. Guess most of us won't feel it right now for our companies are doing well this year. Moreover, this is just the beginning with DBS Bank retrenching a few hundred staff.
Good times or bad times, the show must go on. Those taking their GCE 'A' or 'O' level are finishing or have finished their examinations. It's time to celebrate. Gosh, Prom Night. Guess these kids would throw their school uniforms away and dress their best. Fyn is no exception. Let the PARTEE begins.........

Christmas is slightly more than a month away. Years back, we would have to start shopping for Christmas presents (toys) for my children and their cousins. Now that they have grown up and in their late teenage age, me and Margaret do not know what to get for them anymore. Even getting them clothings as presents is a headache. They may find the cutting and design weird or obsolete for we don't have the 'yo, yo!' generation taste. We were so embarrassed when one of them came to us and said the clothing we bought was undersized. It's beyond my imagination for a 14 year old kid to wear a XL T-shirt. Yo, yo... you rock..man....
And now for the solution, give them departmental voucher and they shop themselves. I believe most of them would prefer cash... as in Chinese New Year 'ang pows'. LOL.

The Buzz .... 9 Nov 2008

Bravo! The Gunners rock! They had beaten their bitter rival Man United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium last night. I could have collected $100 from the Singapore Pools had the match ended in a 2-2 draw. I had placed bets on them to draw and for the final score to be at 2-2. In all honesty, I am happy to lose the $10 bets so long as Arsenal triumph. Go for more goalssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just recieved the Public Holidays 2009 list endorsed by my company management. The good news is that my workplace will be closed from 24 Jan 2009 to 28 Jan 2009 for the Chinese New Year. Merci beaucoup...

'Heng' is in the air

Arsenal played to a scoreless draw with Fenerbahce in the European Championship group match last night. I didn't expect them to win either for I had placed a $5 bet on them to draw. Reason being... they had played badly in the last few games. I suspected they were pretty tired too. Moreover, there were a handful of 1st team injured players. In fact, a colleague of mine who happens to be an Arsenal fan too, predicted them to lose. Well, I am going to collect $22.50 from Singapore Pool tomorrow. Right, for every dollar it pays $4.50 for this draw.

I can feel the 'heng' atmosphere recently. 'Heng' is in the air. For the benefit of those non-Chinese, 'heng' literally means 'lucky or luck'. I bought a pair of Mizuno track shoes designed by my idol Giorgio Armani which cost S$599. As it was the last pair, they sold to me at a 80% discount. It's true that I paid $120 and carried them home happily. : )
