What's the buzz....27 Sep 2007

A man's face or the word 'Liar'?
  • Tomorrow is Fyn's last examination paper.
  • Smily has just recovered after 2 days of high fever and flu.
  • Margaret and I happily bought quite a number of polo and t-shirts at AX bazaar.
  • Sadly we forgot about the DKNY special sales at Isetan Orchard.

My sister, Jessie

From L to R : Peizhi, Smily, Fyn and Jessie

Guess I have introduced every family member of mine except.... eh..... yes.... my one and only dearest sister, Jessie. As an athelete, she had won quite a number of medals in swimming competitions during her younger days. Believe me or not, she can play the guitar too, though not that well. I am thankful to have her as my sister for she has been caring and understanding. Talking about metrosexual, I once wore her blouse to a Christmas party in the '70s. Off course I went with a female partner. Haha....

My family had holidays with her and Peizhi in the '90s to places like Bali and South Korea. Recent years she has been answering the call from above and is busy and active in church activities.

23rd Wedding Anniversary

Celebrated our wedding anniversary with our children at Ichiban Japanese Restaurant (Toa Payoh) last evening. We had sushi, bento sets and sashimi salad. In between dinner we had a good family chat with topics like boy-girl relationship, university studies, money management, nokia N73 handphone, etc. Needless to say, I foot the bill in the end. Haha....

Inside looking out

Had a project meeting this afternoon. Work is going to resume next week. Guess I have rest enough.

What's the buzz....20 Sep 2007

Arsenal is off to a flying start at the European Championship with a 3-0 win over Sevilla. The Gunners are hot. Like what Arsene Wenger said, "Fabregas couldn't score last year but now, he can't stop." Keep on rocking, man!
Poor Jose Mourinho, the Special One, has left Chelsea on mutual consent. He has a colourful personality and English football won't be as much fun without him.

It is sad that Smily and Sheryl have gone separate ways. I sincerely wish them well.

Boring job.....

I am getting a bit bored with my job and asked for a transfer. My boss advised me to stay put. Sigh.... The year end is coming and Christmas is around the corner soon. Well, at times I believe in fate. Stay, wait and see.....
Meantime I need to stay healthy and fit. Watch my diet and loss a few kilos. Believe I can do it.... relax and wait for this Friday. Why???? The jackpot for this coming Toto draw is $5 000 000. Haha..... good luck.......

My Superkids

My Superkids starring Smily and Fyn

I was packing my living room and came across this video tape which I paid about $20 at the Movie World, Gold Coast Australia. It should be more than 10 years ago and feature both my children as Superkids flying across Gold Coast. Fearing infringing copyrights, I decided not to share the video here. It's fun watching this one and a half minute video again and glad to see how much they have grown. Initially, I was in two minds about paying for this but I find it's worth every cent now. Heng ah........

It's a pleasure reading the New Paper these 2 days for they are predicting Arsenal to be the Premier League Champions this season. Last night, they were a goal down at half time and came back strongly to score 3 goals in the second half.

Final result: Spur 1-3 Arsenal

We have fresh fishes for our meals again. Patrick and his wife went to Pontain Johore today for marketing after a 2 months absence. They helped us buy a cooler box of fishes and gave us fish cakes, Season's bread and local dessert. Thanks...........

Mid-Autumn festival

The Mid-Autumn festival falls on the 25th of September this year. As usual we went to Takashimaya carnival for mooncake sampling. I would say most of the stalls are generous and happy to welcome you to sample their products except for one or two so-called 'branded' stalls. They hide their samples behind their counters and discriminate customers before offering them. As a typical Teochew, I like the Eater Palace yam-paste mooncake and would buy a few boxes every year.

This festival is meaningless without the colourful lanterns especially fot the kids. This is the only time they are allowed to play with fire under the watchful eyes of their parents. As for the younger kids, a battery operated light bulb lantern is strongly recommended.

Tanjong Pagar market/hawker centre will be closed from tomorrow to 27 October 2007 for renovation. Gonna miss my favourite 'lor mee' there. Hopefully when it reopens, the price remains the same. Guess the lunchtime crowd will head to Maxwell Market/Foodcourt.

Ramadan

It's Ramadan and Muslims begin their month of fasting from dawn to dusk today. The last time my family celebrated Hari Raya Puasa was at my childhood friend's place in Chai Chee many years ago. Guess my kids were in primary school. Must give my dear Abdul Razak a surprise visit this coming celebration........

I went for my medical review for gastric reflux at TTSH yesterday. Maybe I did not control my diet that it's coming back again but mild. I was wondering maybe it's tea.... or apple.... or cut chilli.... aiyoh...... After my complaint, the doctor gave me an open appointment for one year. In the evening, dived into the pool to wash away my bad luck and wake up this morning with no good luck but backache. LOL.

What's the buzz....10 Sep 2007

  1. Today is the last day of the lunar Seventh Month. Om mani padme hum.....
  2. Back to school after a week holiday for all primary, secondary school and junior college students. Final term examination is near. Good luck!
  3. The playground besides my block is under reconstruction. Guess the obsolete dragon slide would be demolished.
  4. Soccer : England beat Isreal by 3 goals in the Euro 2008 qualifier. No big deal.... we are talking about Isreal man....
  5. Still on soccer : Arsene Wenger has signed a new contract extension with Arsenal for another 3 years. That's the news every Arsenal fan has been waiting for.
  6. Fann Wong would strip for the right script as reported in the New Paper.

World Food Fair

Went with Margaret to the World Food Fair at Suntec City last evening. The crowd was thin and there wasn't much that interest us. I do not know which 'World" they were refering to. Actually we enjoyed our dinner at the Republic Foodcourt located at the 1st storey there. Though a little costly, the 'yong tau hoo' was good. We will try the others should we pass-by there another day.

Food food food. For those of you who are wondering where to go for dinner this evening, why not come to 2nd Street Cafeteria. IL PICCOLO, serving Italian pizzas and pastas has joined Botak Jones there. Once again, it is @ 970A Toa Payoh North. The good news is another stall serving Japanese dishes will be joining them soon. I don't have to go far for all these food. That's cool.

Staying alive

I am enjoying my weekly swimming session. Well, jogging is never my cup of tea. At the same time I do not have the slightest idea of a gym nearby. Initially I dragged myself to the pool because of Margaret's swimming lessons. Since her class ended, we decided to continue to swim on a weekly basis. I swam 12 laps this evening and hope to achieve 20 eventually. I am staying alive...............

This bowl of cocktail jelly at $1.50? Yes, you can get it at Blue Sky Dessert Stall which is located at 01-60 Redhill Market. It serves both hot and cold desserts and they are generous with their serving. It's value for money in terms of quantity and quality. There's always a queue most of the time. The stall close on every Monday and Tuesday. Check it out!

Happy birthday Jared !

Today is Jared's special day. A well-mannered 15 year old boy who personally called and invited everyone to his mini-birthday party at his grandmother's place. As close cousins, these rascals turned up without fail and created a hoo-ha. It's some kind of wonderful to see the bond remains as strong after all these years.
Like Smily, he is a Liverpool fan. He recieved an early present last weekend when Liverpool thrashed Derby by 6 goals.
Once again, Happy Birthday Jared!

Chinese opera

Hokkien opera at Redhill market

So much has been written on the getai during this lunar seventh month celebrations. I happened to pass by the Redhill Market the other day and stayed a while to watch this opera performance. I observed there were less than 10 people in the audience and they were senior citizens. Even if there was a younger group of people watching, I believe they would not understand a word the opera singers were singing. Mind you, they were singing in hokkien. Whatever, the opera troupe is an endangered species and it's a matter of time before it goes into extinction in Singapore.
