Let the party begins

It's my off day. Morning breakfast with Margaret at Toa Payoh Lorong 1 Market. Yes, patronised the popular Teochew Baos and bought newspaper recommended Soon Kueh for tea break later. I didn't know there are so many good stuff here till my immediate superior showed me the way. What a discovery!
The day has finally arrived after weeks of planning. A celebration into adulthood. 'Happy 21st birthday to our dearest daughter, Fyn. Hope you and your friends enjoy this memerable evening.' Pop the champaign!

A Date on 30 Oct 2010

We are a little crazy. Bought Flamingo pens dressed as witches and pumpkin tea candles to display in our offices for this coming Halloween. This year is also an exception for Fyn is having her 21st birthday poolside party on the eve of this festival. I am not involved in her planning, organising and whatsoever. Simply too busy with my work. Thankfully, she got Margaret to help and guide her along the way. I was told to dress formal i.e. no shorts, t-shirt or polo shirt, scandal, etc. For the sake of my daughter, just dress up a little on this coming Saturday.

Choy!!!

Someone sent me a Horoscope 2011 based on the Chinese Zodiac. I thought this coming Rabbit Year would be kind to me and excitedly open the attachment to read. To my horror, it's all no good for me in terms of wealth, health, career, love and anything you name it. As though it's the end of the world, I sympathise those who share my zodiac sign. To rub salt into wound, it's not favorable for the rest of my family members too. OMG! Bring me the person who wrote this 'Horror-scope' and I will skin him alive.
I shall seek divine intervention and use feng-shui influence to ward off this ill omen and inauspicious prediction. So serious meh???

Blur

No no no.... he is not in the jewelry line. What the heck is he doing with his spectacles and two magnifying glasses then? Okay, let me explain. Why me? Haha... for he is my colleague. Our engineering drawings are reduced to super small size with the words and numbers hardly visible to the naked eyes. Even with the enlarging apparatus, often we have to guess what we read. Sometimes I wonder how we survive this long in this situation. Btw, this colleague of mine is on annual leave till 26 October 2010.

Do I know you?

Are they getting old and losing their memories? Scary. I chatted with these few long lost childhood friends on the facebook and they said I sound familiar. Huh? You mean my name doesn't ring a bell. Once upon a time, we used to be good friends. One of them even asked me whether I got the right person? Thank goodness, God has chosen these selected few only. I worry that I may be like them one day erasing or deleting all the files in my head. Will I?

Faye's Bohemian Raphsody

What the hell is happening? Chinese pop 'Ice Queen' Faye Wong sang Queen's Bohemian Raphsody in her concert. I admire her courage but the song is not meant for her. Her cover version lacked punch and it sounds hollow. An opera rock anthem is never easy for anyone to play with. Nice try Madam. Btw, you can listen to both original and cover versions on the youtube. Prove me wrong.

Wanna be blind

@#$%&*!!!! The heat is on. Imagine closing one eye is not enough but it's not easy for me to act blind. I fear the consequences. For that, my immediate superior is not happy. Guess the pressure from the management is beginning to affect us. Physical fatigue is okay but not the mental stress. Well, tomorrow is D-Day. I understand the COO will be down to bark at everyone. Don't believe it's going to be the end of the world. In this project, it's a blessing that I need not face him. Like in the army days, just TAKE COVER! Whatever, life goes on.

The good news

OMG! Me and Margaret are grand-uncle and grand-aunty respectively. First and foremost, we congratulate my neice Selina Ng and husband Kevin Teo for the arrival of their baby Anya Teo Hui. To my eldest brother Thomas and sister-in-law Jeannette, congrats too. Both of you are promoted or elevated to the status of Grandfather and Grandmother. Cheers!

Three Fives

This October has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. I was told it happens once in 823 years. To make it more memerable, Fyn is celebrating her 21st birthday on the 30 October 2010 instead of early November. That's also a day before Halloween. In between, I awaits some good news. Look out for it.

Me a drummer?

I was never a drummer. Just picked up the basics through self learning. Yeah, play by ear. And they needed me to be their drummer desperately and forcing me to handle the drum sticks instead. I could play the guitar as well as them but there couldn't perform without someone who play the drums. Gosh, I was damn bloody nervous on that battalion anniversary celebration. That was really guts. Imagine we played songs by Electric Light Orchestra (Last train to London), Eagles (Lying Eyes), etc. We were cheered on by our comrades. Thank goodness, we put up a good show. Never would I dare dream playing the drums in public. A performance I would never forget but cherish for the rest of my life. That was my one and only. After that night, I went on to perform with others as a bass guitarist but never a drummer again. Thanks for the beautiful memories.

Happy Birthday Smily

Let the celebration begins. Bring in the Ninja turtles. Happy birthday to you................. Oops! It's his 23rd birthday. No, you didn't read wrongly. Our son is a young adult now. As usual, the party with a dinner will be at his maternal grandma's place this evening. Needless to say, the Toa Payoh gang will keep the place buzzing. It's not a joke that we are still responsible for his birthday cake and he told us that he intends to carry on with this tradition till he is married. Indirectly, we'll have to pay for his cake annually till he cut his wedding cake. OMG! He gets to keep the presents and ang pows too. No wonder he enjoys his business studies. Btw, why in the world you called yourself Smily? Definitely you are Smiling all the way to the bank.
Happy 23rd Birthday Ng Yu Sheng. Carry on smiling and be happy always. From Dad, Mum and Sis.

Rest and relax

My weekend is burned. I am still stuck at my workplace. Luckily, I had time to dine with Margaret last evening. Chia is back from Shanghai and we had to postpone our gathering to tomorrow evening. My apologies to the gang.
What is going on? It looks like everyone is not in the pink of health. Me inclusive. Need to watch our diet and have more rest. Exhaustion and stress can weaken our body and sickness may surface. Rest, relax and may we stay healthy always.

Happy Children's Day!

Rain rain,
go away,
little children want to play.

Have you ever wondered where this celebration comes from? One theory has it that the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco (USA) gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened to be on June 1 that year, and also coincided with the conference in Geneva. Hence, Children's Day is celebrated on June 1 annually.
In Singapore, October 1 is picked to honour children with special activities in school. Back then, I used to return home with gifts like a box of colour pencils, ruler and others. So, what's the big deal? Well, times were hard and it meant a lot to us.

May the love and laughter always stay on every child's face. Happy Children's Day!
