Thai Fair

Going to be busy again in my work. Just been given a new permit to restart my project work. But there are a lot of things to be sorted out. For those who do not know what I am talking about, don't bother.

Okay. The Thai fair is on, at the Royal Thai Embassy. I went there with Margaret in the evening. It was pretty crowded. The set-up was like any other pasar malam except that traditional thai music was played live. As usual, they sell ladies' accessories, blouse, skirt, fruits, cooked food, etc. A massage corner was created for stressed out bodies charging $25 for half an hour of rub down.
We bought assorted preserve mangoes. When we were at the ladies' clothing stall, I heard someone calling me from behind. To my surprise, Pipi Lee my ex-colleague appeared out of nowhere. Believe we were happy to see each other as it's been quite some time since we last met.

Ninja turtles and the beauties

Ninja turtles and the beauties. It was the craze during Smily's chlidhood days. No prize for guessing. Smily played the younger ninja.

I like this photo a lot. It was taken at Clarke Quay in 1993. Both Smily and Fyn blended in very well with the embience of the '60s warehouse. It reminded me of my humble childhood days living in that area.

Oh.......no! Thierry Henry, the captain, is leaving Arsenal for good. It's going to be a tough, tough coming season for my favourite football club. Let's hope that it is a blessing in disguise.

Bye Serene!

myspace layouts, myspace codes, glitter graphics

Serene is leaving for home (Melbourne) tonight. Believe her time here is enjoyable and meaningful especially with her family members and good friends. She said she will be back at the end of the year. Meantime it's adios and hope to see you again.
P.S. Knowing that you are such an emo, please do not flood the departure hall tonight. LOL.

Younger days with Margaret

Well, that's me and Margaret during our younger days. She was in her teens when this photo was taken. Looking back with envies, we were slim, healthy, energetic and youthful. Ahh..... those were the days.
Tell you a secret. One of Margaret's favourite food was hamburger. It was considered a luxury during our time. Once, I packeted paus and siew mais for an evening cinema show. She was surprised that I didn't catch up with the latest craze, McDonalds. In the end I got what she wanted, Big Mac. Poor me got to finish up those paus and siew mais.
Today, it's the opposite. She enjoys dim sum and I like Mos burgers. So, who is keeping up with the times? Confusing, right?

Duan Wu Jie 2007

Today is Dumpling Festival. I had my first dumpling of the year for breakfast. Fyn enjoys eating these dumplings from Ho Kee Pau which belongs to Margaret's cousin and her husband. It's been quite some time since we last pratonised their Tim-Sum store at Geylang Lorong 27. Yum yum!

'myspace I was talking to 'ultimate hhg survivor' the other day and understand that Win is back from the US. Win, if you are reading this, I apologise for failing to tell you not to get any present back for me. Thx in advance. FOCL (Falling Off Chair Laughing). Btw, when is our next gathering?

Happy Father's Day

myspace layouts, myspace codes, glitter graphics
Celebrated this special day with a family dinner at HK Kim Gary restaurant (Vivocity). Went there at Smily's recommendation. In fact, he and Sheryl queued for the table and we arrived just in time for the order.
It's a hip eating place for the youngster. They serve combination of East meet West set meals like pork chop bake rice with cheese, etc. The set also comes with a drink and soup. What a experience!

Tebrau City, Johore

Oh shit! Ohh...........SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! Not again. The last time, we queued for 2 hours to clear this Johore custom. Luckily for this afternoon, it took an hour. You see, we were on our way to Tebrau City, Johore. It is a twenty five minutes taxi ride from the Causeway Checkpoint.
We had our lunch at Kenny Rogers Restaurant there. After that, we headed towards Jantzen Hair Salon to have our haircut. Margaret had her hair permed too. She proceeded to the Foot Spa after her hairdo. As for Fyn and me, we bought an unfinished Naruto to paint on it. Understand the money collected goes to charity. Before we left, Fyn bought Dunkin Donuts. We took a taxi to City Square for dinner.

Moshi moshi. I promised Fyn to have dinner at this Japanese restauarant, Nippon Yataimura, the next time we come to City Square. It is such a posh yet traditional restauarant. We ordered the bento set. For a moment, I thought I was in Tokyo. Arigato!

Toa Payoh cousins, father-in-law

Some of my friends thought blogging is a youngster thing. They were surprised that I blogged. So what, man! It's simply in me to catch up with the latest happenings. I refused to be redundant.
To those who are still in doubt, I can only say BLOGGERS ROCK!!!

'myspace

From left to right: Smily, Celine, Clarissa, Jeffrey, Fyn, Clement and Jared.

These are Smily and Fyn's so called Toa Payoh cousins. All of them were brought up by their grandmother, Anna, since birth. No doubt they do quarrel, scream at each other at times but they do feel and care for each other. For they are a noisy bunch, these rascals will tear your house down should you invite them to your party. Danger, beware!!!

Oh, that's my rock steady father-in-law, Joseph. He is a pensioner, having retired from the education profession many years back. Though in his 80s, he is a ballroom dancing instructor, running his studio in JB. At times, he is invited as a judge in the local ballroom dancing competition. A great singer with a powerful voice, he joins his friends to karaoke sessions too. Guess he is still enjoying his rock and roll days.

Army Daze

Where am I? Make a guess...

I was called to serve the nation in 1979. It was a privilege to be among the few Chinese in the Malay platoon during my recruit days. We were confined for the first 2 weekends. Discipline was strict and we were punished should one of us make a mistake. As a result, we were forced to work as a team.
Those days we had only 2 public phones to call home. (Handphone was non- existent) Imagine the queue........ calls were allowed only after eight in the evening. I queued for an hour just to talk to my mum for 3 minutes. Sigh!
I did not need an alarm clock as my platoon mates would wake everyone up after their morning prayer. Surprisingly a few of them were able to fast through the Ramadan month ( prior to Hari Raya Puasa) despite the tough regimental training. Salute!
We had gone seperate ways upon our Passing Out Parade. Doubt we can recognise each other even if we cross path today. Everyone has matured and prospered i.e. grow old and fat. Haha......

Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath Rocks!!! No doubt some of you may say it's an old man's concert. But I am never tired of watching their video concerts and listen to their songs. Heavy metal has no expire date. The more you listen, the more you get the kick. Especially with some serious head banging.
Black Sabbath is one of the pioneer groups in heavy metal. Their recent 2005 live performance showed that they were still full of energy. Don't forget they were in their 60s. That bloody Ozzy Osbourne will @#%$ you up beyond belief. Rock On!!!!

Me and Smily having a jam session in 1989. It's never too young to rock..............

Killing weather

The weather is killing. It's so bloody hot. Imagine with my bedroom air-con on, I can feel the heat on the walls. Suckz......... what a lousy weekend! Sore throat and a heavy head. Guess Fyn's sickness is contagious. Only consolation is.... she is getting better.

Meantime, I am waiting for Patrick. He should be on the way back from Pontain, Johore. Every one and a half month, he ( together with his wife and mother-in-law) would go to the market there to buy fresh fishes. He would help me to buy too. In fact the freshness of the fish remains, even being kept in a fridge for a month or so. Anyway, it's kind of him. What a brother I have!

Queenstown cousins

From L to R: front row Yu Jian, Yew Jia, Yu Fang, middle row Yu Sheng, Joyce, Peizhi, back row Selina, Yew Shih. ( Chinese New Year 1995)
Smily and Fyn would gather with their so called Queenstown cousins during Chinese New Year. It begins with the reunion dinner on the eve, followed by a visit to my mum's place at Queenstown the next day. They would meet for about 4 to 5 times during this period and go separate ways after that.

Me and my brothers

Tweety Bird is Fyn's favourite cartoon character. Her favourite pop group is Simple Plan. They are here to wish her well. She was not only sick, but very sick last night. Thank God, she is feeling much better today.

From left to right: Patrick, PK, Roger, Thomas, me and Francis.

This picture was taken in 2001 at PK's house warming. That was the 1st time me and my brothers had taken a photograph together. Thomas is the eldest, followed by Roger, Francis, PK, me and the youngest, Patrick. We are a happy-go-lucky bunch. As brothers, we hardly disagree with each other. Each has individual lifestyle. You can tell by our looks. LOL. Believe me or not, all of us can play the guitar. Definately we inherited the gene from my late father. He played the snare drum in the brass band.

Silver Surfer

I took these pictures at Funan Centre the other day. It's cool and I showed them to Fyn. "He's Silver Surfer", she said. Huh???? Pardon me, I have not come across this name before. I was totally lost when she said that he's from the show, Fantastic Four. Whatever said, it's artistic and eye- catching. Btw, Fyn is down with fever and flu. Got to return to consult the doctor should the fever refuse to subside in 2 days time. Pray for her speedy recovery.

New T-shirts for me

Just bought a kaki T-shirt from Calvin Klein Jeans at Paragon Shopping Centre. Two weeks ago, they were selling at $70 after a discount of 30%. But I found it a little expensive. Much to my surprise, I discovered that they were giving a 50% off the T-shirt when I visited the store this evening. The rest is history.
Oh, yes! I would like to thank Serene for that Gap t-shirt too. She had asked her sister, who is a air stewardess, to buy it in the U.S.
Great!!! Two new t-shirts for me. :)

Old scanner

I managed to get a free scanner home. I connected it to my computer and downloaded the programme and software. Guess what??? When I started to test the scanner, a pop-up appeared on my computer screen saying that the scanner programme and software are not compatible with Window XP. Aww........! Can someone tell me what to do next? I am still a computer illiterate.

The weekend is here again. Tomorrow is Police Day and Smily will be on duty. Fyn will be out with her friends studying. As for me and Margaret, err.......... will decide .......
