Rain rain,
go away,
little children want to play.
Have you ever wondered where this celebration comes from? One theory has it that the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco (USA) gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened to be on June 1 that year, and also coincided with the conference in Geneva. Hence, Children's Day is celebrated on June 1 annually.
In Singapore, October 1 is picked to honour children with special activities in school. Back then, I used to return home with gifts like a box of colour pencils, ruler and others. So, what's the big deal? Well, times were hard and it meant a lot to us.
May the love and laughter always stay on every child's face. Happy Children's Day!
