Hokkien opera at Redhill market
So much has been written on the getai during this lunar seventh month celebrations. I happened to pass by the Redhill Market the other day and stayed a while to watch this opera performance. I observed there were less than 10 people in the audience and they were senior citizens. Even if there was a younger group of people watching, I believe they would not understand a word the opera singers were singing. Mind you, they were singing in hokkien. Whatever, the opera troupe is an endangered species and it's a matter of time before it goes into extinction in Singapore.
