Guess my blog has become the news centre for my family i.e. my brothers, sister, nephews and nieces. Got to be very careful of what I write or else............ aiyah! they complain to my mother lah. Can someone volunteer to inform Selena or Joyce of this blog?
Congratulations to my Arsenal Football Club on making it to the UEFA Championship next season. My immediate wish is that they beat Chelsea this Sunday and shut Jose Mourinho's mouth once and for all.

Golf, mum's birthday lunch
Recieved a call from Philip Lee (secondary school classmate) inviting me to join his latest interest, golf. I was like, Oh my God, Golf!!! Guess I can never be a good golfer simply because I am impatient. Anyway, kind of him to call.
Celebrated my mum's birthday in advance with a 8 course lunch at Commonwealth Cresent. Present were my eldest brother and his wife, second brother, youngest brother and his wife and my family.

Passport photo-taking day
It's passport-photo taking day for both Margaret and Fyn. Their passports expire in a few months time. An advice from the photographer. Photograph with fringe that hangs over the forehead covering the eyebrows in full or in part would be rejected by the Immigration Department.
Talking about catching up with times, a digital camera was used instead. No negative would be issued. A CD-Rom, with pictures taken, can be bought @ $5 for future developing. Cool man!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the buzz....25 Apr 2007
My dear Fyn has been down with flu and a throat infection for the past few days. Pray that she will recover soon. Believe it or not, Margaret and her colleagues had their 1st swimming lesson last evening. Keep it up!! Smily called to say that he may not be home this coming Friday evening for he has to attend the National Day Parade practice on Saturday morning. As for me, just got my pay cheque. Hehe......

Those were the days....National Theatre
The National Theatre, was located at the junction of Tank Road and River Valley Road. International pop group, Bee Gees, held a concert there in the 60s. So were the Wynners from Hong Kong. In the late 70s and early 80s, that's the venue for rock concerts organised featuring local bands like Heritage, Sweet Charity, Unwanted, etc.
Besides musical concerts, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, then the Prime Minister, had his annual National Day rallies there too.
Due to the structure instability, it had to be demolished. So...so....so...sad!!!!!!!!!!

Free Cone Day
Today is Tom & Jerry's Free Cone day. I happened to be at Raffles City this evening and chance upon a queue for free ice cream at the basement. Shy to say, I had 2 scoops of it. My wife and daughter joined me later and enjoyed themselves too. I understand this is an annual event celebrated internationally. Sigh.... if only it is a weekly event.....
The crowd
and not forgetting Jeffrey, Fyn's cousin.

Those were the days..... Hock Lam Street
A picture of Hock Lam Street in the 60s. The only building remains today, is the Central Fire Station, which was located at the other end of the street as seen in the picture. I grew up in the neighbouring street named Hong Hin Court. We were vacated in the 70s, to make way for the present building, Funan Centre.

To love or not to love
Love is in the air. My son had introduced his girlfriend to me and my wife recently. As a father, I am happy. My worry is, she is still studying in Poly and should he furthers his study after his NS, will they be able to concentrate. Hopefully, my worry is uncalled for.
My wife is comfortable with her and they have our blessing. Like what Miss Claire Chiang said, I quote, " You can't tell them when to fall in love. The romance story is theirs to write."

What's the buzz....
Sad to know my mum had replaced her maid a few days ago. The reason was simply.......the maid was rude. Talking about rudeness, I had witnessed children venting their anger by shouting and screaming at their grandparents, despite the care and love given to them. That is really a sadder thing. Hopefully they will realise their mistakes as they grow. Sigh! Life goes on.

Patrick and his cat
Younger days with Margaret
Well, that's me and my lovely wife Margaret, when we were young. Guess Margaret was still in her teens when the photo was taken. Time flies. Looking back with envies, we were slim, fit, energetic and youthful.
Tell you a secret. Margaret favourite food was hamburger as it was considered a luxury at that time. Once I packeted pows and siew mais for a evening cinema show. She was surprised that I didn't catch up with the latest craze, McDonalds. In the end I got what she wanted, Big Mac. Poor me got to finish all the pows and siew mais.
Today, it's the opposite. She enjoys tim-sum and I like Mos burgers. So, who is keeping up with the times?

Senior bloggers
Kool man! Those uncles and aunties rock! I am refering to the article 'New kids on the block' in The New Paper today. Those new kids are the senior bloggers, in their 50s and 60s. It tickers me when Mr Lam Chun See oftens ends his post with the letters LOL. He thought LOL meant 'lots of love'.
Here are some abbreviations we used during our younger days:
FRANCE : Friendship Remains And Never Can End
ITALY : I Trust And Love YOU
SWALK : Seal With A Loving Kiss ( written on sealed envelope )
Now for the bad news. My Arsenal lost to West Ham last night. Pui...! :(

Shopping at City Square (JB)
Went shopping with my wife and daughter at City Square (JB) yesterday. Margaret got her hair trimmed and dyed. Fyn spent R$48 on tidbits and souvenirs. As for me, I had a good dinner at the Kenny Rodgers' restuarant. We bought 8 pieces of Secret Recipe cheese cakes back as it's about half the price sold in Singapore.

Happy Birthday, Anna
Happy 71st birthday to my dearest mother-in-law. Celebrated with all her grandchildren except Smily, who is in camp. Believe it or not, she has brought up these kids. Guess they are closer to her than to their parents. That's the way it should be.
A simple celebration brought as much joy. Thanks Anna for the lesson.
Mother of mine
Mum, Hoon Gek Meng, was born 3rd May 1927. She has never celebrated her birthday for she does not want her children to spend money unnecessarily. I have just managed to con her to reveal her birthdate recently. Born a British subject, her Singapore identity card just shows her birth year. Gonna start a small celebration for her this year. Hopefully, she is comfortable with it.
Thanks for all these years of love and care, mum.
